Process Overview

Product design is often a nonlinear and messy process. This is the framework I’ve developed through my many years of working with cross-functional teams. My teams and I created and used this framework to establish a common baseline for designing great experiences.

The design process consists of seven key phases—Plan, Discover, Define, Ideate, Refine, Build, and Learn—and is encompassed by the “Understand” and “Design” stages, guiding the journey from initial planning to product launch and iteration.

This is not just a resource for UX designers; it is a framework for cross-functional teams that provides these benefits:

        • Shared language to discuss and think about product design
        • Understanding of the goals and value of all UX-related work
        • Ability to make informed decisions in product planning/delivery estimates
        • Knowledge of how and when to be involved in UX-related work
